The main reason why safety George Iloka signed with the Vikings was because he was already familiar with the team’s scheme and head coach, Mike Zimmer.
Iloka is hoping he’s the same Zimmer that was the defensive coordinator with the Bengals for Iloka’s first three seasons in the league.
“There was no pitch. He drafted me in Cincinnati,” Iloka said Wednesday. “We have a good relationship, even when he left Cincinnati to come here and I just told him to be the same Zim you were when I was a rookie. That’s kind of why I always liked him – hard coach, exact, real good with his defense and that’s the kind of player I am. The only thing he pitched to was, ‘You know the system and I want you here.’ And that was enough for me.”
Iloka’s role in Minnesota isn’t known quite yet, but if anyone knows how he could fit in it’s Zimmer.
